Importance of visual literacy for promotion of conservation and biodiversity for young people across West Africa. Implementing the Educational Recommendations for Studies in Media, Art and Design, developed within the TICASS project

In my presentation I would like to introduce the CACE (Culture and Arts for Conservation and Environment) project realized by a consortium of several universities: Ghana, Gambia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, and the Academy of Art in Szczecin. This project is oriented towards supporting West African art and culture in an intercultural dialogue and exchange with European countries. It recognizes the importance of considering visual literacy for the sake of environmental and socio-economic issues, especially for promoting biodiversity, conservation, and taking up alternative ways of professions such as forestry in communities exposed to the effects of climate changes. The need for transforming the art education policy in the West African countries opens a window for implementing the Educational Recommendations for Studies in Media, Art and Design, developed within the TICASS project, by means of the participation of the Academy of Art in Szczecin in the Consortium.
